Go Back to Sleep, America. Your Government is in Control.

Humorous Political Commentary:          Suck the Boob

The late, great Bill Hicks, the most poignant comic of The Baby Boomer Generation, used this phrase in his act. I wholeheartedly concur with the sentiment this infamous, cynical comic who adopted my home town so clearly implied. Probably the main difference between Bill and me, aside from the fact that his work is funnier than mine, is that I think America's corporations are far more villainous than our government. I have felt this way since 1970, a fact I have expounded upon in my books in at least moderate detail. I have been a huge fan of Ralph Nader since he first became known in The Sixties. Bill Hicks was right about Ronald Reagan: he may have been the most evil force in America in my lifetime. Reagan gave America what it wanted, permission to be the most selfish and self-centered generation of people in all of world history, and he did it with a smile....

Here Are Just a Few Issues That Should Have Slapped Everyone Awake

(But Apparently Didn't)

American corporations are continuing to downsize based upon the stock price.

If these same corporations are sending the high-tech, white collar jobs to India, are they not slowly cutting the throat of the golden goose, the spending power of the American middle class consumers?

We live in a nation in which marijuana growers occasionally (or maybe even routinely) serve more prison time than murderers, rapists, armed robbers, burglars, and car thieves. They absolutely serve more time than the white-collar criminals who steal millions from the citizenry. Remember Enron? Remember Worldcom?

Have you ever thought about the simple fact that the pot growers are simply criminals against the major drug companies, the alcohol industry, the tobacco industry, and other major lobbyist groups?

Has it occurred to anyone that the real American villains are the very industries that spend the most money lobbying Washington?

I have a personal, controversial, little list. The most heinous villains in modern America are not part of organized crime. They have the law on their side because they bought it. Right now I consider organized crime #4 on this list. The first is the insurance industry, the second are the financial institutions, and the third are the major drug companies. Update: Due to the passing of the recent, despicable bankruptcy law, I predict that within the next few years, the leading banks issuing credit cards (financial institutions) will overtake the insurance companies for the #1 spot.

When the far-right Christians began their grass-roots crusade to control America's citizens through the far larger, right-wing Republican Party, America began to go to hell. The Christian ideals are correct, but the legislation of morality is wrong. The separation of church and state has been compromised. The really disgusting part of this is that these Christians are being duped by the big-money faction of The Party. The powerful controllers don't give a rat's butt about the moral issues: they just want to control all the money! Surprisingly, I agree with most of the Christians' desires! America has been trashed by political correctness. The great majority of Americans don't vote because they feel like they do not have a voice. The Republicans will do anything to support the corporations and the Democrats will do anything to support the minorities and political correctness. We can't throw our votes away on Ralph Nader because we all know he will lose! The real majority of America is trapped in the middle!

What does this have to do with the sexual mores of America? If we as a nation were not so totally obsessed with sexual attractiveness and celebrity worship, those who just want all the money could not so easily distract and control us.

 STOP / START

There are many things we can all do right now to turn around America and our lives to the right path again:

STOP buying SUV's to drive alone on the freeway while thumbing our noses at the rest of the world.

START shredding every credit card offer we receive in the mail.

STOP voting for Republican politicians every chance we get.

START supporting birth control of all kinds both in the U.S. and worldwide.

STOP choosing our dating partners based upon superficial appearances.

START questioning the financial motives of every talking head on television.

STOP consuming far more expendable luxury goods than we need.

START teaching our kids to achieve principles of learning and intelligence.

STOP supporting values of beauty and sports far above education.

START teaching our children that God belongs in our schools and everywhere else.

STOP supporting political correctness that has already gone way too far.

There are ten major concepts that tie together the themes and content of my seemingly disparate books:

(1) I have been a total nerd (translation: reader) all my life.

(2) My favorite subject is the depth and psychology of modern American culture.

(3) I truly want life to reflect what America claims itself to be.

(4) I developed a questioning attitude toward my culture and my surroundings at a very early age, and my immediate influences were extremely Southern, WASP-ish, and conservative.

(5) I became totally liberal and free-thinking a long time ago.

(6) My books represent years of thought and research into the subject matter.

(7) I write as if I am the reader, not the writer.

(8) The books generally are nonfiction: the fantasy and fictional elements are there to stimulate the reader's imagination.

(9) If I cannot present something that is at least a little new, I don't write it.

(10) My books absolutely must simultaneously teach and entertain the reader!
